” Glad you made it to Age of Conan , and please, please feel free to look me up if you need any further help or want a group .” When that bit of purple private tell text scrolled through the chat box of of our newly created guardian last week, it was clear that we weren’t finding what we initially expected when we set out to research the community in Funcom’s sword and sorcery MMORPG. Funcom’s Age of Conan has adopted a free-to-play business model for its entrance into the Korean market, according to a report by MMO Culture . While this isn’t exactly news (since basically every game in Korea is F2P), it was interesting to note executive producer and game director Craig “Silirrion” Morrison’s response

Filed under: Fantasy , EverQuest II , MMO industry , The Agency , News items , Vanguard Layoffs in any industry are never pleasant, and in a smallish community like that of the professional game developer, they can be even more trying. As we reported yesterday , Sony Online Entertainment recently announced the decision to serve 35 employees with their walking papers, and speculation has run rampant in the absence of official information. Two of the developers now looking for work checked in on the EQ2Flames forum to confirm the news and thank the community for their support.

Ho hum, another week, another email phishing scam, not exactly news right? Well, this time around, Sony Online Entertainment thinks it is serious enough to issue a security alert via the official EverQuest II website, warning players to safeguard their login information and ensure that it is only used on the official SOE site. While details on the new scam aren’t clear, it’s a safe bet that it has to do with exploiting a similar URL, as SOE explicitly states the legitimate login URL ( http://auth.station.sony.com ) in its press release

Even though he phrased it in the form of a question, his delivery implied a mind already made up. Such is EQII’s reputation among a decent chunk of the MMORPG-playing population it seems.

Sony Online Entertainment has introduced a new item into their EverQuest II Station Cash Marketplace this week, and, while we’re not normally in the habit of reporting on individual microtransaction products, this one bears mentioning if only for its rather shocking price tag.

Well, I’d love to wax on about it, but since we’re not a history blog, let’s look instead at the myriad MMORPG holiday celebrations that happen throughout the year. Whether it’s something like the fireworks shenanigans going on in Mabinogi this weekend, or the double XP happening in EverQuest II , every title normally does a little something extra for the major holidays including Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, St.
