Blizzard congratulates itself on Diablo III’s anniversary

Filed under: Fantasy , Culture , MMO Industry , Diablo III , Anniversaries Diablo III is a year old, and Blizzard’s celebratory anniversary gesture is one of those mile-long infographic things featuring selected statistics designed to make you ooh and ahh. Said statistics include 67.1 million characters created world-wide, 3.3 trillion monsters killed world-wide, and 22.4 million characters that have killed Diablo . Interestingly, Blizzard left off the number of hours lost to launch server login issues, nor is there any mention of D3’s much-maligned real-money auction house .

Filed under: Fantasy , Bugs , Business Models , Economy , Events (Real-World) , Game Mechanics , MMO Industry , News Items , Opinion , Free-to-Play , The Daily Grind , Miscellaneous , Diablo III , Neverwinter In the last few weeks, two big games we cover on Massively have been slammed with exploits that have injured their respective economies: Diablo III and Neverwinter . Blizzard bans thousands of bots from Diablo III

Filed under: Fantasy , Legal , Diablo III Diablo III is a few thousand players lighter today, as Blizzard announced that it had culled the unfaithful (read: botters) from its fold. Community Manager Lylirra issued the grim proclamation : “We’ve recently issued account bans to several thousand Diablo III players who were found to be using botting programs while playing. In addition to undermining the spirit of fair play, botting, hacking, and other forms of cheating can also cause technical problems with the game as well as contribute to performance issues with the Battle.net service.” Lylirra also said that the Diablo III team is working to add a feature that will allow players to directly report naughty bots through the game itself
